Am I missing something?  Judging from other posts I've read, it would seem like my databases are outdated.  I recently downloaded the latest version of ProMash and I don't have ANY name brand malts listed, everything is generic.  Also, I don't have things like Wheat DME, Extra Light DME, Simcoe hops, and most recently found missing - Rice Syrup.  What gives?

Thanks,

Well, what version of ProMash are you using. Last year we added about 50 extracts. Many of the things you mentioned are there, for instance Wheat DME (Briess Weizen DME).

We do NOT add supplier/distributor information because, do you know how many malsters there are? Are we to add 50 2-Row Pale Malt entries, one for every malster? No. This is why we give you the ability to add, edit, modify, clone, delete any entry in any ProMash database.  The Extract's are a bit different, as there are limited extract producers we do include several name brand extract in the stock database (Alexanders, Briess, Coopers, Ireks and Muntons).

Hey we missed a hop entry entry one year? Simply go into your hope database and add it! Not too difficult a task....press the "New" button in the hop database and enter in the details. Save the database when finished.

THATS WHAT GIVES.

Thanks.  I understand how to manually enter data, I've been doing it for several years now.  I just ran across some other posts asking for brand specific malts and wondered if they were available someplace.  Also, I am running version 1.8a that I downloaded about 2 months ago and I only have about a dozen extracts - all generic.  Could it be that I needed to delete my old data file before the upgrade?

Oh yeah...about adding data...

If I manually enter 20 items to the hops, malt, or whatever database and then a new version of promash comes out, is there anyway to not lose all the data I've entered, yet still get the new database with the upgrade?

Thanks.

Oh ok, the upgrade does not automatically update the database, we had instructions on this in the upgrade email...What you do is:

1) Goto the malt database.

2) Choose "Import". When the dialog comes up you should see the Malt import file that we included with the upgrade. Choose that file.

That's it.  If you download the full version then your current database will be wiped clean with the new databases. For upgrades to previous versions however, you have to import the Malt Import File we included with the upgrade.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Using the Malt import file supplied with the upgrade, and importing that file will not effect any of your current entries. If an entry *does* conflict, the import will warn you and ask you what you would like to do with the entry, with several options.

Cheers!
