Since about one and a half year I have Promash running on a PC with Vista. The only problem is that often it won't close properly, especially when I had many windows or menu's opened. Then is the only way to exit Promash via Task manager. It's a minor inconvenience, but does anyone know what can be done about it?

Hey Lou,

I suppose you didn't find a solution yet? It surprises me that no-one from Promash itself replies. I would think there lies the answer...

I don't think he's been doing any work on promash for a while. I'm sure it isn't making a lot of money now and it is tough to work on software as a sideline. Plus keeping up with microsoft is a full time job.

I have 2 boxes with Vista on it here and I can open every window possible and then just close ProMash without ever having an incident. I also have a lot running on them in the background and have not once had to use TaskManager to close anything.

I'm not saying this problem does not exist, only that I cannot replicate the problem here no matter what I try and most Vista users don't seem to have the issue.

So until I can get the actual system causing problems to be shipped here and determine what minor/major Vista difference there is between that system and my systems (Vista has a LOT of flavors), or a very detailed report on everything that happens from boot up until the close problem, it will most likely continue to be an issue for the users experiencing it in the current version.  I have not ignored this, I simply can't replicate the issue.

Hello Jeff,

At least nice to know that you actually take notice of our problem. What do you mean by shipping the system there? I guess sending in my whole PC, from out of the Netherlands. That would be out of the question. I will try to see if I can give any more details on the chain of things when the problem occurs again. However, Promash is not a program that I use daily, although I'm very glad having bought it. I will get in touch eventually.

Thanks,

Frans

Yep I realize shipping the machine here is out of the question, but unless I can get ahold of a box or a sequence of events that lets me see the problem first hand there is little I can do. As mentioned, 2 Vista systems here and not a single hitch when closing the app.  Anyway, happy to investigate further if you can provide me any additional details that might shed some light as to the cause of the problem.

Cheers!

- Jeff

All I can say is I have 64 bit Vista, and I run promash out of C:\ProMash\ProMash.exe which may be a little non-standard. Also my files are in C:\ProMash which I guess is where you'd expect them to be.

This happens most of the time, but not all the time.

open/close just worked
open/open session/ok/close just worked
open/open session/print/etc/close didn't work

not sure if that's repeatable, but unfortunately I can't play with it now

I will say that generally when I open from this computer I print. (I share the files with multiple computers using microsoft's mesh).

I tried some combinations of opening and closing both sessions and databases. Of course this time the program shows its best side and closes perfectly. I will get back about it with a detailed report, once I notice the problem occurs again.

If you do everything EXCEPT print using shared computers, do you have a problem closing?

Lemme know,

The trouble I have closing Pro-Mash is only after I have printed, no problems other wise.

I'll be upgrading to Windows 7 I'll see what problem I have there.

I had the same problem when attempting to print in Vista. I think I might be seeing some issues related to security within Vista. The defaults are set to have the export directory in C:/Program Files/Promash/etc. I keep trying to print to html export and it never shows up, I'm thinking that the security on vista is setup so tight it wont let that happen. I'm going to attempt changing my defaults to My Documents/etc. and see what that does.

Just finished loading the 32 bit version of Windows 7 and all the problems have gone away.
