I purchased promash around 12 years or so go, give or take.  Been using it actively all this time.  I just went through a hard drive crash and have been having issues getting it reinstalled on my Windows 8 machine (was previously working fine on Windows 8, same machine).  I don't have the original install file anymore but I do have the program directory of Promash from the previous install.

Simply copying that directory over and trying to run the porgram does not work (error something about system file missing or some such).  Tried using 'run in compatability mode' but didn't change result.

Tried installing the trial version off the Promash website.  At first the same result.  Then uninstalled and ran the installer via the compatablity mode and the program works but it's only trial.  I tried copying the old directory over the new install but then the error returned.  So I uninstalled and then reinstalled the trial back to working condition.

The problem with being left with trial version is the only being able to change 3 recipies/sessions.  The problem with the website recovery is that I registered it 12 years ago.  I don't remember what email address I used to register it, nor do I have access to any of those from way back then anymore.

I've tried contacting Promash technical support to explain the issue but I've gotten no reply whatsoever.  Honestly, if it was merely an issue of me not being able to prove I've purchased the program, I'd simply pay again.  It's not expensive and I'm too dependent on Promash.  But the lack of response is too worrisome to throw money at.

Does anyone that's bothered to read this have a solution.  I have a feeling one of the files in my old install directory could fix this issue but I have no idea which one.

Thanks,

Mark

I'm having the same issue and do have my username and code.  However, after downloading and reinstalling it still gives the same error message.  I've sent a notice to tech support, we will see if they answer.  I really don't want to buy something else, I like Promash and have an extensive library of recipes that work well and are repeatable.

Here's an alphabetic list of all the files in my ProMash directory. A lot of them aren't system files, but it was easier to just provide the entire list. My understanding is that ProMash is entirely self-contained; it doesn't make any registry changes nor does it copy files into any other locations.

OK, I got mine working I think.  At least it SEEMS to be working so far.  No more missing system files errors and no more free trial limitations.  FWIW, this will only work if you had a previous working version of Promash on a previous Windows install and still had a backup copy of the directory.

As previously mentioned in this thread, I was able to get the fresh download from this sight of the free trial version of Promash to work on my Windows 8 machine only by running the installer itself in Windows compatability mode (believe I chose Windows XP).  Of course that comes with the free trial limitaions of saving 3 recipies/sessions.  To get the full working copy going again I started trying copying one file at a time over from the old install to the new install and testing after each file copied.  Didn't take long until I hit pay dirt.

First I tried _DEISREG.ISR because it's an odd looking file that looks like it had to do with registration AND it didn't exist in my new directory.  No dice.  Program worked but still in free trial mode.

Next I tried _ISREG32.DLL for the same reasons as the first one.  Again, no dice.  Program worked but still in free trial mode.

Next I tried the Promash.exe file itself, replacing the one in the new install.  Voila!  It works!  FWIW, I have no idea if the first two files made any difference.

I'll reply back if I run into any issues.

I tried this solution, but it didn't work for me.  Drat.

I have been away from the hobby for eight years or so.  Just had my first weekend back, and trying to use the evaluation copy wasn't that great.  My reinstallation attempts failed since I'm using 64-bit Windows now.  The evaluation copy I found on some website did work though, but it will not allow me to enter my credentials from my license.

I'm still scouring the web for assistance tips, but if anybody could point me in a good direction, I would be most appreciative.  I am a huge fan of ProMash, but will have to decide if I need to cut and run to another program shortly.

I also stumbled across many posts with old news about Mr. Donovan's wife.  That news saddened me since I could not imagine life without my wife.

Thanks,
Mark

Ok, update from my post.  I got it to work.  Thank you, Mark, for the explanation.  I have ProMash in too many locations, and it turns out I was copying to the wrong location.

duh!

Thundershred or Mark, I'm now in the same boat you two were in a while back. Where did you find Promash could be downloaded again?

Any help, would be appreciated

Thanks

Just got an email notification for this forum.  Haven't been here in forever and surprised it still exists!

Anyway, Jeff, I don't remember how I got another install file.  I probably downloaded it straight from the http://www.promash.com site.  However, going to that address will give you The full ProMash website will be back on 06-01-2015 which is long after my last visit here.

I will say, last January, I updated my computer.  I copied the install directory from my old computer to my new computer and it worked great right from the get go without having to do the process I described earlier in this thread.

Wish I could be more help.

Edit:  I don't know if I still have an actual install file stashed around somewhere, but if I find it, I'll come back and say so.

forgive my ineptitude, install directory?

Like, the ProMashInstall_Pro?

Also, thank you so much for responding.  I love this program and I really don't want to have to settle for beersmith

If you had a licensed fully functional install on a previous computer, not a trial version, in the location it was installed, select all, copy, paste to a folder in a thumb drive, then copy that to a convenient location on your new computer.

This last time, that's all I had to do for it to work on my new computer.  The version of events I told a few posts up, I had to do a few tricks as described.

In both cases, I'm working from a point where I had at least a copy of the associated fully functional version.  In the first instance, I used a new install file and then copied a few files over it from a previous install.  I didn't have to do that this last time.

As to where the default location of where the install file places the functional program, I've long since forgotten that.  You'll need to do some looking on an old computer that has your original install.

Got it transferred to the new computer.  Seems to be working.

Having a little trouble transferring recipes...but I'll keep after it

Are you sure they weren't just being saved to a different location?  Mine are saved to a different location, but I'm sure I set that myself.  I don't know what the default location is for the recipes.

Everything is gone.  I have backups on the cloud, but it looks like Im gonna have to start all over.  I'm so angry I can barely speak

If you have backups on the cloud, why do you need to start up all over?

Anyway, it's very strange that they just disappeared, even without backups.  Have you searched your old hard drive from the root with "*.rec" (and let it take a while to do the search).

(rec is the file extension promash uses for recipe files.  brw is the extension it uses for sessions)
